Day 65: Surgery Timeline In Teeth Pictures

I really don't know what's going on with my teeth at this point.  Sometimes I feel like they touch on the left side, sometimes I can bite down on my right, I just don't know!  Things are hopefully moving towards proper occlusion, but it is difficult to tell.

I thought I'd post a few pics of what my sad little mouth has been through in the past few months:

PRE-BRACES

THREE MONTHS IN BRACES

POST-SURGERY BANDS

BANDS OFF AT ONE MONTH POST-SURGERY

WIRES AND SPLINT REMOVED TWO MONTHS POST-SURGERY

Notice the slight tilt and small gap in between my two front teeth.  I know I'm obsessing over these little details but I expect perfection after all of this!  These pictures show the massive improvement in my bite though-- I had nearly forgotten how much of a gap I had.  To my jaw surgery patient readers: there is a light at the end of this very long tunnel! :)

Day 29: The No-Band Smile!

A friend came to visit today, and we snapped this picture!
Big metal-filled smile!

And here's a similar photo we took pre-braces:

We looked a lot tanner back then!

Here I was exercising my classic turn-the-head mouth-slightly-open pose in which I could most comfortably smile.  Smiling involves a lot less effort now, though it includes a lot more pain due to the bits of metal tearing up the inside of my mouth.  Most everyone who has seen me say they see little change in my appearance, which I guess is a positive thing- being unrecognizable would be awful!

Day 19: The Fourth Of July

I have the BEST FRIENDS!  Given my still-silent and foodless situation, I was planning on sitting this holiday out.  Instead of enjoying the day at the beach, I chilled inside reading The Girl Who Played With Fire and watching television.  But in the late afternoon, I received a surprise visit from two of my closest friends, one of whom I hadn't seen all summer!  It was so sweet of them to come hang out and watch fireworks with their puffy mute friend!  We had some champagne and we toasted by clinking my syringe with their glasses haha.

My loves!

I went through some other jaw blogs as well today-- I came to the realization that while other jaw surgery patients have several appointments in the first few weeks of surgery, I've had next to nothing!  It almost makes me angry how little correspondence I've had with my surgeon.  The one time I saw him (a week post-surgery) he spent maybe ten minutes with us and said little about anything!  I guess I'm just frustrated.  I want so badly to be able to talk and smile with my friends and EAT SOLID FOODS OH MY GOD.  It's been almost three weeks now, so hard to believe!  My next appointment is on the 13th, by which time it will have been a month since surgery.

I'm also concerned that my midline is definitely a little off.  It was before surgery as well, but I didn't realize how much it would bother me after.  The problem is largely due to my deviated septum, which tilts the base of my nose. I'm hoping this is more or less fixable with orthodontics! :/

Still shut!
